How to install Simple Agent on Google Tag Manager

You will paste a single <script> tag in your Google Tag Manager site's Tags → New → Custom HTML → All Pages. No plugin, no app installation. Google Tag Manager official docs on custom code →

    Confirm the GTM container is installed

    If GTM is not already on the site, install the container first: the script block as high as possible in <head>, and the noscript block immediately after the opening <body> tag.

    Create a new tag

    Open tagmanager.google.com, select the correct container, go to Tags, and click New.

    Choose Custom HTML

    Click Tag Configuration and select Custom HTML.

    Paste the widget snippet

    Paste the complete Simple Agent snippet in the Custom HTML editor: <script src="https://simple-agent.me/widget/loader.js" data-agent-token="YOUR_TOKEN_HERE" async ></script>

    Attach the All Pages trigger

    Click Triggering and choose All Pages so the chat appears site-wide. Use a narrower trigger only if you intentionally want selected pages.

    Preview, then publish

    Use Preview / Tag Assistant to confirm the tag fires and the widget appears. Then click Submit, name the version, and Publish.

    Validate as a visitor

    Open the public site in a private browser tab and confirm the widget appears outside GTM Preview mode.

Can I install Simple Agent without touching site code?
Yes, if the GTM container is already installed. If the container is missing, you still need one site-code change to add GTM itself.
Why does it work in Preview but not for visitors?
Preview is not a public release. You must Submit and Publish the GTM workspace version.
Does this work on builders like Wix or Shopify?
Yes when their GTM integration or custom-code access is correctly configured. If the builder blocks GTM or Custom HTML, use the builder-specific Simple Agent guide instead.
